Request exactly HOW the bureau verified it. What documentation? Who did they contact? They have 15 days to provide method. If they can't — item must be removed. This is the trap door most people don't know about.

Bypass the bureau. Go direct to the company that put the item on the report. They have 30 days to investigate under FCRA §623. This is a separate dispute track from the bureau — both must respond.

ROUND 4 — CFPB COMPLAINT
File CFPB complaint against the bureau AND the furnisher. CFPB notifies them within 15 days. They must respond to the government. Success rate jumps dramatically — nobody wants a federal agency record against them.
FCRA violations carry $1,000 statutory damages per violation + attorney fees. If they've ignored your disputes, verified without evidence, or violated the 30-day window — that's money on the table. A certified letter from an attorney often removes items the bureau refused to budge on for years.
