Entity authority

The knowledge panel is your AI resume: how to earn one

The knowledge panel — the information box search shows beside results for a business name — is what confidence looks like. When the engine is sure enough about an entity to summarize it, it does. Nobody applies for one, nobody buys one, and nobody is promised one. This is the honest path to earning it, with our own October 6, 2026 panel as the worked example.

What this gives you

01

What the panel is

A summary the engine writes when its confidence in your entity crosses a threshold it does not publish.

02

The consistent-identity path

Identical name, address, and phone across every source — the non-negotiable foundation.

03

Interlinked owned profiles

Website, business profile, and social channels corroborating each other in a closed loop.

04

The honest caveats

No guaranteed timeline, no guaranteed outcome — and what our own panel did and did not prove.

01

What a knowledge panel actually is

A knowledge panel is the engine’s summary of an entity it believes it understands: name, category, address, hours, reviews, photos, a description. It appears when the engine’s confidence in the entity — built from structured data, consistent listings, and corroborating sources — crosses an internal threshold the engine does not publish.

Think of it as your AI resume. When a customer searches your name, the panel is the first thing an AI assistant reads too: assistants draw on the same entity graph. Earning the panel and earning correct AI answers are the same project, because they are the same confidence threshold.

02

Consistent identity everywhere

The foundation is unglamorous: the exact same business name, the exact same address format, the exact same phone number, on your website, your Google Business Profile, every directory, and every social profile. Not ‘close enough’ — identical. Each disagreement is evidence against the entity; each agreement is evidence for it.

This is also where most small businesses fail without knowing it. The name on the website has ‘LLC’ and the profile doesn’t. The address abbreviates ‘Street’ in one place and spells it out in another. The phone number is missing a digit on a directory nobody has opened in three years. The engine reads all of it. Fix all of it.

03

Owned profiles, interlinked

Your website carries the canonical entity statement — Organization structured data with your identity links. Your Google Business Profile is the independent verification layer. Your social profiles — YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and any professional profiles you maintain — are corroborating witnesses. Each links to your site; your site’s structured data links back to each. That closed loop is what the engine crawls to confirm you are one entity, not several similar names.

Our own company facts page is the anchor of our web: checkable statements about the business, on the business’s own domain, with the same identity data the profiles carry.

04

Third-party mentions

Owned profiles are your testimony; third-party mentions are everyone else’s. Directory listings, local press, industry pages, and customer reviews on independent platforms all feed the same confidence calculation. You do not control these sources, which is exactly why they count: the engine trusts agreement it cannot attribute to you.

Earn them the slow way. Get listed in legitimate directories with identical identity data. Ask real customers for reviews on independent platforms — never fabricated, never purchased. If local press covers you, make sure the article states your name, city, and what you do in plain sentences. Each mention is one more witness.

05

Time, and what it does not guarantee

Confidence accumulates on the engine’s schedule, not yours. There is no application, no fee, and no timeline anyone can honestly promise you. Weeks to months is typical for a small business building from a thin entity; some businesses wait longer. Anyone selling a guaranteed panel on a guaranteed date is selling something they cannot deliver.

The panel is also not permanent. Let your identity data drift — an old address here, a dead link there — and the confidence decays. Earning it once and maintaining it are the same discipline.

Our worked example: October 6, 2026

On October 6, 2026, desktop search for our business name showed havengai.com as the number-one organic result with sitelinks and a knowledge panel. We state this as a dated observation, not a promise: it is what happened, on that day, for that query, on desktop.

Two honest caveats travel with it. First, our Google Business Profile existed that day but video verification was still pending — the panel appeared for the name query anyway, which tells you verification is one input among several, not the single switch. Verification strengthens the entity further; we do not claim it is unnecessary.

Second, that same morning an AI assistant had confused us with an AI video company and a property-management AI vendor. The panel and the confusion coexisted on the same day, on different surfaces, because different systems read different evidence at different times. Entity confidence is per-surface and per-query. The work is continuous, and we publish our own record — panel included — under the same standard we hold clients to: dated, checkable, no superlatives.

Direct answers

What serious buyers ask.

Can I apply for a knowledge panel?

No. There is no application and no fee. Panels appear when the engine’s confidence in your entity crosses its internal threshold — built from consistent identity data, structured data, corroborating profiles, and third-party mentions.

Does verifying my Google Business Profile create the panel?

It strengthens the entity but does not single-handedly create the panel. Our own panel appeared while our verification was still pending. Treat verification as one strong input among several, not the switch.

How long does it take?

No honest timeline exists. Weeks to months is typical for a small business building from a thin entity. Track your exact-name search results and re-test AI assistants periodically instead of watching the calendar.

Can the panel disappear?

Yes. Confidence decays when identity data drifts — old addresses, dead links, contradictory profiles. Maintaining the panel is the same discipline as earning it: keep every source agreeing.

Is a knowledge panel the same as ranking number one?

No. Ranking is about a query; the panel is about the entity. You can rank first for your name without a panel, and the panel can appear on surfaces beyond classic search — including the answers AI assistants give about you.
